Spring 2012: A Twist on Pastels (Monochromatic White)

Zero & Maria Cornejo Spring 2012

Although you can hardly tell from the leftover snow near me, spring is finally here. Pastels are taking over the runway as well as the store windows this season, from faded yellows, to pale pinks, to the oh-so-popular mint green. After raiding my closet (and my local Forever21), I came up with my take on the trend. I layered different textures all within the same cream/ivory color scheme.

I layered this sheer, lace tank with a sweetheart-necked cami to accentuate the contrast (though it isn't too great) between the cream color of the fabric and my ivory skin.  To add shape, I took an old pearl necklace and clasped it around the narrowest part of my waist. I matched the top with a pair of very pale pink skinny jeans. For shoes, I'd recommend nude flats or pumps, or if you wanted to throw in a bit of color try some metallic gold sandals. As far as accessories go, I was minimalistic. I skipped necklaces all-together, but it could be interesting to wear a small pendant underneath the lace top if you want a bit more bling. For earrings I wore pearl studs, and I added a floral bracelet to keep the spring-theme continuous. Daytime clutches are also very popular this season, so I used this white beaded one from a vintage store to add even more texture.
